Pakistan is heading towards it worse General Election in its Political Histroy.
The Election Commission of Pakistan recently took away the election symbol of Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, as confirmed by Khan’s lawyer on Saturday. The symbol, a cricket bat representing Imran Khan’s past as a cricketer, was removed because the ECP found that PTI’s recent internal elections didn’t follow the party’s rules.
The Pakistan’s strong military establishment do not want that the former PM Mr. Khan to be elected again as Prime minister. Mr. Khan openly criticized the strong military establishment for overthrowing his Elected Govermenet couple of years ago through a NO confidence motion. Imran Khan strongly opposed the military role in Pakistani Politics.
After 9th May protest, the military establishment and its pro intern administration use all the power to eliminate Imran Khan’s political party and retaking its Election symbol its part of this action against PTI.
Imran Khan is in jail for over a half year now and facing multiple charges which are politically motivated says its party lawyers. However, Imran Khan’s lawyers managed to file his nomination papers to contest a national assembly seat from his hometown Mianwali in southern Punjab. He is also expected to contest another seat from Lahore, with pending paperwork to be filed with the ECP.
Previously, the ECP declared PTI’s intra-party elections held in June 2022 null and void. They gave PTI 20 days to conduct fresh elections to qualify for the bat symbol they had requested.
During the December 3 intra-party polls, Barrister Gohar Khan was elected as PTI’s chairman and other office bearers.
However, this recent decision has ousted Gohar Khan from the party chairmanship, a position held by Imran Khan for the past 27 years since PTI’s establishment in 1996.
The ECP, in a written decision released Friday, mentioned that PTI didn’t follow their guidelines. They stated, “PTI didn’t hold its internal elections; according to the PTI Constitution of 2019, the Election Act of 2017, and Election Rules of 2017.”
This is the second time within a month that the ECP invalidated PTI’s internal elections, just weeks before the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8.
PTI, in a statement, criticized the ECP’s verdict, stating that the commission didn’t offer fair treatment compared to other political parties.
The party also highlighted recent police raids on the houses of some of its candidates and alleged harassment of its members by law enforcement agencies.
The Election commission and the strong military establishment and trying to manage the Feb General Election and not allowing the Imran Khan’s part to contest election. According to recent election polls Imran Khan’s party is likely to win the majority of parliamentary seats and will be in a position to make its government again.
The Election commission is biased and it seems the election will not be free and Fair and its will lead a political instability. The country is already facing Economical and security challenges.
